I think at this point it deserves its own thread: Rolling Stones are overrated

I think I’m in the minority but there are a bunch of really famous rock bands that I just can’t get into:
Rolling Stones
AC/DC
Van Halen
Led Zeppelin

Rolling Stones - incredibly boring, snoozefest, no idea why they're famous but people think Mick Jagger is supposedly cool
AC/DC - one or two songs are fun as fuck on a hot summer day when ur half cocked. Then it gets boring. The bang and intrigue from them falls off quick. It's a brief high that fades fast.
Van Halen - really enjoy them but their best work is heavily stacked towards the beginning of their career. They put out a lot of shit. I would rank them above the Stones and AC/DC though.
Led Zeppelin - ok ur fucking retarded if u don't like them u are broken as a human being wtf

there was an entire era of shitty stadium music that I refer to as anthem music. even great bands like fleetwood mac fell into this trap making dumb songs to get you to stomp your feet.
its all pathetic and belongs in the smithsonian

fwiw, and i think everyone knows the stones are my favorite band and it's not even close, i used to be at most a casual fan of theirs. i knew maybe 10 or so songs and thought they were good but had tried to listen to albums but didn't really get it.
in 2010, gary and i were in cleveland visiting her parents for xmas and we were there for a full week. we had a rental car and it had a cd player but couldn't play ipods and this was before streaming on ur phone. i happened to have one cd (a burned cd) in my backsack: the rolling stones, sticky fingers. a friend of mine had told me that it was an amazing album but i hadn't really sat and listened to it. because that's all we had, i threw it in and we just played that on a loop as we drove around cleveland (mostly gary driving me around while i was in a drunken stupor). about three days in, it kind of clicked with me and i got really into the record and in particular i loved Moonlight Mile (which remains my favorite Stones song to this day).
once we got home, i started listening to their pre-1980s catalogue and that did it for me. before this happened, i didn't quite "get it" but it took a few spins on sticky fingers to hook me.
i've gotten legitimately obsessed with a few bands in my life, to the point where they were all i listened to for a year or so. they were: the smiths, the beatles, pavement, the rolling stones, eminem (after SP's bar spaghetti incident). by a wide margin, i got the most obsessed with the stones. i can't really explain what it is about them, but they really caught lightning in a bottle for several years.
