Big selloffs have happened repeatedly over the last few years. Why is this one so worrying?

Do you think the panic has ramped up this time around compared to the last few? I just don't see how the sky is falling. We've gone through this a bunch of times already.

Way more coins out there now so the panic levels are higher. Before it was primarily Eth rising and falling, or shitcoins, etc., but not at the same time. Now it's bitcoin and eth and shitcoins all swaying more or less in sync.

But besides tether, how does the introduction of shitcoins affect anything? I would guess that the overwhelming majority of btc/eth holders have zero shitcoins, and no immediate intention to acquire any. Most of these people couldn't even name more than one or two shitcoins if asked.

It's gone from some 4chan weebos being able to afford an accord to half the fucking internet COPPIN DEM LAMBOOOZZZZ, and the entire country of south korea putting all their money in crypto. The relative size of the market is much larger, and there aren't that many more people to pull in to drive prices up. At this point the majority of people who would invest in something as volatile as crypto know it exists.

Because before it really was "early days," and there were only a few coins (all of which had reasonably strong fundamentals) that were likely to bounce back. It was rational to hold under those circumstances.

Now we're no longer in "early days"--at least not to nearly the same degree that we were a year ago, as measured by important metrics like market cap, public awareness, temporal proximity to regulation, etc.--and there are also more than 1,500 different coins, the vast vast majority of which are totally worthless and were grossly overinflated in their valuation and will frankly never recover. A lot of people feel in their gut that they're looking into the pit of a looming financial abyss from which there is no return, and most of them are absolutely right to be terrified and should liquidate immediately (even if they do so at a loss).

The fact that internet currencies are nearing a point of universal adoption is a pretty strong fundamental case for a rise in value.

That said, there are way too many shitcoins out there that don't deserve to be in the picture..They rightfully will collapse mightily.

They aren't actually being "adopted" for anything yet though. The main real-world use case of crypto is still the same as 2012: buying drugs on the internet. Hopefully that will change this year, but who the fuck really knows?

Most qualified people in the world are working on this with extraordinary financial and personal benefit at stake. Something will happen sooner or later.

But specifically, how does the fact we might not be in the early days anymore make a difference? Also, feel free to comment on my other question above re: abundant shitcoins affecting btc/eth values.

Where were you three weeks ago?

We now have the major correction nearly everyone was predicting and you're here trying to shit on us and act like some sort of a savant

And again, if you are so sure about this, go short the hell out of BTC. But my guess is you are too gutless to do that.
