The recovery codes are the only thing that matters, at least for a ledger nano s.

The wallet itself is useless. If you have the recovery codes, you can access your money from any ledger out there.

Up to you if you think it’s worth putting a piece of paper in a safe deposit box.

I’m worried about losing it in a fire etc. need to keep multiple copies. I’m thinking about creating a doc on an air gapped PC, putting the pass phrase on it, encrypting it and storing it in the cloud

I recite my private key from memorization every morning and night and have 10 fake private keys around the apartment

no. the hardware wallet is not important. it's the seed phrase used to generate the private key. you can leave your hardware wallet around and if it gets stolen your funds are fine.

I’ll just store the seed phrase with birth certificate etc then. I’m just worried about some bank teller going into my lockbox and stealing the private key

Only the manager can get in the room and they have a bunch of safeguards.

If you used 2 lock boxes at separate branches, you are 100 percent safe

Another similar issue: you should really not tell people about crypto IRL

I remember reading the nyt article on those idiots in crypto castle - they have a good chance of being kidnapped imo

Come on. How is it any different from any one else that has a lot of money? Nobody wants to kidnap you for your 1000 ETH

Wrong, If thieves get access, the transfer is non reversable and untraceable if they wash it with a privacy token

he is right. its tough to steal money from bank account when you are in the US without it being traced back to you. crypto no. somebody could put a gun to your head and make you transfer all BTC/ETH to another wallet and you are done and nobody can get it back for you especially with monero. not to mention there is no atm, bank to monitor transactions
