This is actually pretty simple.

The dude kicked ass at a top 25 school (LR EIC and Summa), which landed him a flyover clerkship.

I imagine he worked very hard as a clerk, that coupled with his strong credentials, landed him an O'Scannlain clerkship.

O'Scannlain is a feeder, and I'm guessing this dude tore it up for O'Scannlain too.

Justice Scalia hired the guy based on his strong credentials coupled with strong recommendations from O'Scannlain and the D Ct Judge.
