6 months in and I'm really disliking this shit. I owe about $200k. My plan was to stick it out for 4-5 years and try to pay off the bulk, but I'm not sure it's worth wasting those years of my life. Will try to make it a year or so and if things haven't improved or I haven't grown used to it, may just say fuck it.
Anyone done this? Did you regret it? What did you do after?

Student loans and no default does not mess up your credit. No tax for 10 yr forgiveness and the other glitch will be fixed. There are also bills in Congress to shorten forgiveness period.

That ratio is for revolving credit only
Student loans simply do not affect credit except re timely payments

You're not wasting those years of your life if it prevents you from living the life of poverty you'll inevitably face without a biglaw salary.
You're fucked, bro, but you can at least make the fucking finish relatively quickly by sticking it out at your firm.

Standard stuff, though I think my firm is a bit on the extreme end as far as hours and workload go. Everyone in my year is doing 60-70 hour (billed) weeks pretty consistently. I knew I'd be working hard but didn't really expect to never leave before 11 or 12.

Why is it whiny to do something you like?

it's whiny to spend a bunch of time studying for the LSAT, applying, busting ass in law school for 3 years taking on $200k, interviewing, landing biglaw, taking the bar, finally starting, then 6 months in you "hate it." He should have known biglaw is tough before even going to law school.

Thats not whiny its just maybe a little foolish in retrospect. Its pretty hard to know until you get there.

becuase the vast majority of college grads cannot get paid to do something THEY DON'T LIKE let alone something they do like.
This whole entitled, "I should be able to do whatever I like.........." is solipsistic and self indulgent. Most people cannot get jobs period.
Plus someone who is going to quit any decent job that pays okay when they have 200k in debt is CRAZY.

The 200k is forgivable, and the biglaw will never last very long anyway.
Its not about being entitled, its just realizing that a) some things are not worth the effort and b) life is too short not to try new things or to spend doing certain things

Stick it out until you pay off your loans. If you're frugal, you should be able to do that in less than 4 years.

most associates dont like the job but it's mostly painless to stay in biglaw two years. get on a lot of doc review projects, avoid taking any early responsibility work or brief drafting, and do just enough to avoid getting fired

doing same brother, no worries, clear hearts. consider that in 500 years you'll never worry about this; consider in 500 years your firm will still be working people to death; consider in 500 years your hours spent toiling for a partner will mean nothing.
worst case scenario: you become homeless or insane. Query whether you feel that way now? I certainly do. When you have no free time, you are essentially in prison anyway. When your mind is imprisoned, you are even moar fucked than most inmates, whose time is at least their own.
