Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a bill with the impressive, everybody-can-get-behind-this title “Protecting Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act.” Sponsored by the ultra-conservative North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx, the bill ostensibly took aim at an issue close to small-government-loving hearts: intrusive federal regulation of for-profit colleges — fast growing, highly profitable outfits like DeVry University or the online-only University of Phoenix.

Fucking Bitch!
But as it turns out, Foxx herself is benefiting from the waste and abuse of federal tax dollars. Among the top 20 financial contributors to Foxx in the 2011-2012 cycle are the Association of Private Sector Colleges/Universities, the Apollo Group (owner of the University of Phoenix), and Corinthian Colleges. Since federal student loans comprise the vast majority of the revenues of those for-profit schools, it follows that their campaign contributions to Foxx are also made possible by U.S. taxpayers.

Rep. Virginia Foxx On People With Student Loans: ‘I Have Very Little Tolerance’ For Them
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) took on a unique enemy during a radio interview yesterday: people with student loans.
Though many politicians sympathize with those who are saddled with exorbitant student debt, Foxx, who chairs the House subcommittee on higher education, had a different take. Appearing on G. Gordon Liddy’s radio show, the North Carolina congresswoman recounted her own experience paying for college, where she worked her way through and graduated after seven years. Foxx then pointed to her own experience as justification for why she has “very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt.” “There’s no reason for that,” she concluded:
FOXX: I went through school, I worked my way through, it took me seven years, I never borrowed a dime of money. He borrowed a little bit because we both were totally on our own when we went to college, totally. [...] I have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there’s no reason for that. We live in an opportunity society and people are forgetting that. I remind folks all the time that the Declaration of Independence says “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” You don’t have it dumped in your lap.

Dear Congresswoman:
I have very little tolerance for entitled boomers enjoying mortgage bailouts, Soc. Security payments, Medicare benefits and pensions (all of which I'll likely never receive) thanks to my tax dollars. When you graduated from college in 1968, a student working 6.2 hours a week at minimum wage could pay for college.

it would be nice if our legislators were merely incompetent, but well-meaning.
instead, they are actively evil. they despise us. they probably want us dead.

REMINDER: The House actually passed this POS legislation (with 69! cosponsors)
The House believes that a for profit "university" shouldn't be held to calling a credit hour something that actually comes with at least an hour of classroom work.
Jesus Christ, how can you even think about passing something like this without attaching the stipulation that you can't get federal loans for such an unregulated program
Pretty soon you're going to have idiots borrowing 30K from the government for a couple of pdf files from your local university of Phoenix!

What Rep. Richard Hanna, R had to say on the issue:
“Upstate New York is a worldwide higher education destination. The 24th Congressional District is home to about 20 colleges and universities, which is one of the highest concentrations of higher learning in the nation,” Hanna said. “These schools are assets to our communities and local economies. Higher education means direct jobs and collaborative partnerships with private industry."

that's right! They're not even trying to hide the fact they're into extorting money from students. More jobs funded by student loans are good for the local economy, says Republican representative. Having legitimate credit hours costs too much and costs us local jobs!
