u can do virtually ANY type of law and if u structure it right u can make tons of money in SMALLLAW

divorce law is actually a money maker for my buddies 50 lawyer firm. It evolved from the trust and estates practice--rich doctors wanting hide wealth--well, now they are getting divorced. The section supposedly does surprisingly well.

This is retarded. It seems like if you are a solo, you have to be a jack of all trades. E.g., Your neighbor/client wants to start a business, he asks you to incorporate him. Then he needs you to help negotiate a lease for some office space. Then he needs his will updated. Then he wants to refinance the mortgage on his house, and he wants you to review the HUD. Then his 17-year old son gets arrested for drug possession, and he calls you. Etc. etc. etc.

i've heard of quite a few attorneys getting disbarred for coaching FOBs to say shit like "they forced me to have an abortion" and all kinds of lies to get asylum. the lawyers don't even do the coaching themselves. they have non-lawyers doing the whole thing. the immigration lawyers crafting job descriptions specifically to bring in their favorite fob candidates aren't much better. such a scammy practice area.

The much bigger threat to solo lawyers and small firms is LegalZoom and the like. Forming corporations and doing simple wills may not be big ticket items, but they probably help pay the rent for a lot of small lawyers.

No, those sites are WONDERFUL, because they will no doubt fuck something up and lead to FUTURE litigation requiring a REAL attorney to step in and fix shit.

The REAL THREAT to solos/small firms are pro se litigants/defendants who just say, "Fuck it" and go it alone.

So many divorce/family law cases are handled pro se now.
