To random lawyers and other people outside the firm.

Can I say that I took in Feb for some plausible reason without really lying?

You were kidnapped by travelling gypsies, sold to pirates, spent a few years on the Spanish Main before making your way home thanks to a magical chipmunk

The first one pretty much does not happen, and the second two are basically code for "I'm a slacker" unless you feel like concocting some elaborate backstory about having to take a semester off for some kind of emergency

unfortunately no. I'm seriously worried of this possibility myself and already thought of an explanation like .. someone died in family or something horrible such that i couldn't concentrate/pass. Honestly i don't care about my friends so much, they'd prob just assume I passed and not ask, but it's my employer I'm worried about.

I'm just thinking about people outside the firm who don't already know, who might wonder why my firm bio isn't up yet.

who are these 'people outside his law firm' that would be googling his personal bio anyway, to find out if he passed the bar specifically? they sound like tools/not friends.

Well yeah, I mean if they were friends I wouldn't really worry about it. Just thinking about how to handle this in networking/socializing situations.

I had a friend with similar anxieties after passing the 2nd time around. In the end, she was quite literally never put in the position, personally or professionally, where it came up. As long as you don't affirmatively discuss it, I doubt you'll ever get asked in a point blank way. Mostly people just talk about their bar experiences generally. Don't worry about it.

You're probably right. I'm just into all kinds of socializing and networking bull shit, so that's why I was thinking about it.

why should it matter?

if it's the new york bar, you passed the second try and you get admitted in the same year.

moreover, failing once is no big deal.

repeated failures that are bad.

I don't list bar acceptance dates on my resume, only where I'm admitted... I think this is what most people do anyway, so I doubt people would notice (unless your firm lists year admitted).

NY bar candidates are admitted in the following year anyway.

I know someone who passed the conn or mass bar on his first try - can't remember which one - got admitted in the following year too.
