And, seriously, you're a SA, $300 for a pair of shoes that can and will last you for the next 30 years is nothing. There's nothing more prestigious than having real dress shoes that get sent back to the manufacturer and resoled with fresh cork and leather.
Call these guys up and they'll ship you a perfectly fine pair of shoes (with some, silly, minor flaw) on the cheap. |

edit: I may be wrong about BB Peals having been Alden; it might have only been shoes under the BB label. But the point is that Peal is not a shoe maker, and is made by better companies than AE, and are better quality shoes. |

And I don't really think that was your point originally, but maybe it was. Peal & Co shoes - at least the ones I've seen and bought from BB (i've tried several, bought one) - are not appreciably better than AE, frankly. Perhaps marginally better looking across the board, can't judge on durability. They're not worth the retail price that BB tries to sell them at; on the other hand, AE shoes at retail are a perfectly good buy. |

Very high quality hand made Italian leather shoes that look great. You can pick up a pair for ~$200-300 and they will last for years.
Just getthe heel replaced once every 6 months in MFH or every year or so anyplace else where people don't walk more than a few feet in a day. |

alden is like the minimum quality shoe for professionals. if you can get brooks brothers peal shoes at one of the sales, it's a decent option since some are made by crockett and jones.
also lol at shoes lasting 30 years. there is no way that you are going to want to wear your shitty run down allen edmonds or alden shoes in 3 years, let alone 30. the only shoes that people keep for that long are bespoke john lobbs etc, and even then only if they are worn pretty infrequently. |
