Yeah, the tests are structured differently but there must be some ballpark conversion. Assume relatively equal amounts of studying, etc.

Also, I know everyone here loves to shit on law and will probably say a 20 MCAT or something but does anybody have an actual opinion based on their experiences?

even *if* a bunch of lazy as shit relatively high-talent kids get 172's from drilling LSAT logic games for 3 months, that nowhere near approaches even the amount of practical knowledge alone you'd have to store to get a 34 MCAT (let alone promises the same amount of innate genius)

PSA: failure retards can get 170 LSAT. see: xoxohth.com

It is vastly knowledge based, especially the biological sciences. having a biomedical degree is a huge advantage on the BS section. Although I will agree it is not a 'knowledge based' exam by any means, having a heavy science background provides a HUGE advantage on the exam.

Dude has no idea what he's talking about. You definitely need a solid conceptual background in the core sciences (especially for the BS section) to score above average. The major part though is learning how to apply the concepts and take the test with the help of a few tricks/tips to maximize your score, but a solid science background makes it a lot easier.

Q: Are people answering making a distinction between rigor and effort?

It's one thing for the MCAT to take much more effort to prepare for than the LSAT (years of science courses vs. nothing), and quite another for it to be more rigorous.

I don't think it's appropriate to adjust for effort when comparing scores.

do u think lsat as a test is inherently less easily crammable by kaplan or w/e, than mcat, while having less concrete info to prep for. is that ur claim.

i do think lsat tends to show "innate iq" (lol) more prevalently as an empirical matter of fact, but that's bc more smart lazy ass kids take lsats and get 174+ while not learning anything useful ever. while mcat reflects however derivatively some science facts.

The mcat is more rigorous and takes more effort. Even the fucking verbal reasoning section (lol) on the mcat is more difficult than anything on the lsat.

also the pool of test takers is significantly more intelligent which is why a 30 (75% percentile) is more difficult to attain than a 171 or so.

lsat might as well be a contest to memorize digits of pi. that's how frivolous/useless it is. which is apt and worthy preparation for lol scool.

mcat has real scientific knowledge on it, and tests for med school aptitude, even if it is not exactly a mini-usmle, bc real lives are at stake and medical profession isn't a clowning joke like legal is.

whok didn't even care with his full mental abilities intact.

Apples and oranges. Aside from the fact that they test completely different things, there is much less to be gained from being a perfectionist on the MCAT. If you raise your LSAT from 170 to 178 that can be the difference between MVP and HYS. Most medical schools use the MCAT strictly to set a minimum cutoff. If you don't meet the cutoff, you are an autoding, but if you meet the cutoff, then scoring above the cutoff doesn't help you that much. And the low 30's is good enough to get you into all but the best schools in the country, and mid-30's is good enough for probably any school other than maybe WUSTL. So nobody bothers to try to raise their MCAT score above 40 since it would be a total waste of time.

A 36 mcat is equal to a 168 lsat based on percentiles. So a 170-172 lsat would = a 37-39 mcat. A 175 lsat would be a 42ish mcat.

The LSAT scores have been above the 90th percentile, the average MCAT has been a 32

90th percentile LSAT is 163, 32 is about an 85th percentile on the MCAT

I am not sure what your getting at here. You chose a weak med school and the sample size is probably about 2-3 tops.

Much harder barriers to entry. Shit, if someone scores 99%th percentile on the california teaching exam, then surely they can score a 36 MCAT, right?!

No, california teaching exam is not in the same class as gre, lsat, and mcat.

You also confuse the number of people taking the mcat with the number of people admitted to med school. Just because it is harder to get into med school than ls doesnt deter dumbs from taking the prereq exam for med school.

I took both exams.

The thing is, the MCAT is based in part on at least 8 semesters (plus labs) of hard sciences classes. So a ton of the material on the MCAT is substantive. But even given that, the so-called logic bs on the test is at least as hard or harder than the LSAT.

Actual, real case for comparison here. My gf took the MCAT and is going to medical school. She got a 35.

She also took the LSAT because she was considering law school as well. She studied a reasonable amount (like, a couple months while a student). She got a 171.
