doubt it. it's gonna suck anywhere. i guarantee they have high attrition like everyone else. working lit at a high pressure firm just fucking sucks balls man, no matter what the advertising is. the nature of the work, the perfectionist, highly critical partners. it just fucking sucks dude. 90%+ run for the exits as soon as they can

i think i would also get much more annoyed being forced to concoct sps legal arguments to press meritless claims than being forced to concoct sps arguments to defend against claims, meritless or not

EVERYTHING. i work for a "star" partner who finds something to criticize about almost every single thing that comes across his desk. he thinks this is his way of adding value. he will find the smallest tiny little things to nitpick. god forbid u actually fuck something up that isn't just stylistic. he will go ballistic. one time i had a single typo in like 5 briefs and he said to never, ever let it happen again. i am not joking about the "never, ever" language.

I'm spending the summer at a place like this. All the associates tell me that they work very hard, but seem to have a lot of flexibility (everyone takes all their vacation days, frequently work from home, etc.). Cases are mostly staffed with 1 or 2 associates so they like the ownership, but obviously can get stressful, especially when they first started out.
Infrastructure sucks. Some bitch that they wish there was more organization and support. There is apparently one name partner who is a terror to work for and everyone hates, but the most of the other partners seem to be total sweethearts.
I tend to think that smaller offices are more humane for a number of reasons, but I may be wrong.

1 - how much did they offer?
2 - did you get a sense of bonus structure?
3 - did they tell you what salary trajectory is? ie, wtf do their 3rd, 5th, 7th years make, etc?

I'm spending the summer at a lit boutique on the east coast. Not sure what I'm going to do on graduation. Hopefully I wont get no-offer-pwnt, but I might explore other options anyway. Not sure that working at a firm is for me.
I think Lieff is an interesting firm, and the people seemed great. I think someone upthread was also accurate - not having to bill by the hour probably leads to a better associate experience. With that said, I was worried that starting off plaintiff-side would be a career limiting move that I wasn't willing to make at that point. I think if you are interested in some of their core practices (esp antitrust or consumer protection) and are sure about being plaintiff side, it would be awesome to live in SF and work there.
