What if sometime over the next 50 years, we as the human race reach the limits of our science due to the limited natual resources around us. I mean, there must be a limit to science and advances.
What if this limit is not hundreds or thousands of years off like science fiction likes us to believe, but happens within our lifetime?
What if we never have the technology to leave the solarsystem, or take day trips to Mars? What if your computer will never be much more powerful that your current Intel Core 7 you use to play Warcraft? What if there is no cure to cancer?
