Date: September 14th, 2012 4:24 AM Author: Fuchsia deep senate here's my story, could happen to you since you're probably about as smart (I was top 1/4 at UT/Vandy/USC). as a barred lawyer, took job working as a "law clerk" at a small financially shaky product liability firm making $18/hr(aside from comp they treated me like an associate though). did a small research project for a midlaw firm our firm had connections with. a few months later they ask me to help in the trial of a big case for 45/hr. a month later they raise to 80/hr, and actually pay me 80 for the work i did to that point. for the next 6 months i work for them off and on, then they tell me they have a spot for me working 30 hours/wk. so i'm making six figures for part time work. what you need to realize is that there are many non-nalp firms paying 90-130k that hire not from top schools, and the job market for those positions is VERY inefficient. you just need to find a way to get exposed in a work setting (not in a you emailed them your resume setting). it's worth taking a financial hit to build a rep for yourself, I specifically took the first job over actual associate positions paying 55-65k because of the chance to make better connections. We had 3 HLS, 2 CLS, Berkeley, UMich, Duke, Cornell, and at least 10 other t14 just off the top of my head. The older folks were mostly retards from TTT but the younger ones who got decimated by the economy were mostly T50. Talked to the recruiter about it and she was shocked at the quality of schools yet most of the candidates fresh out of LS barely had 1 complete year of w/e at the same place.
