I'm not straining for optimism. I'm a 3L who just recently got a job after getting no-offered so it's not like I dont "get" that the picture, as it is currently situated, is bleak. Then again I'm 27, I've only seen one really bad recession and one really good boomtime.

What would it take for the legal economy to erupt again?

I'm trusting XO hermits to come out from their shells and actually contribute meaningfully to a discussion -- a tall order, I acknowledge.

there could be another bubble at some point. probably not for quite a while, though. the major problem is all the baby boomers are getting old and sucking off the government. i doubt the economy will look truly good again until they're mostly dead (25- 30 years).

There kinda is one going on right now in litigation. Biglaw lit departments haven't been this busy since before ITE and I would argue its busier today than it was in 2007 thanks to all the securities lit stemming from ITE. All that shit is only now getting to the discovery and trial phase. There will be more MBS related trials in 2013 than in any of the previous 5 years. There is also a fuckload of products work going on right now including some early Propecia cases being built as we speak. Those will be BIG.

Permanent limp dick. There is research that says a certain % of Propecia users get permanent limp dick and it doesn't go away when they stop taking Propecia. That research is enough to trigger the avalanche of cases that are starting to now flow. If you are a plaintiff's lawyer and haven't signed up a Propecia case wtf have you been doing?

If they're looking for bodies why couldn't I jump? I've been litigating against those faggots for a while now and my work product is pretty indistinguishable from theirs.

there will be a legal boom- for robots and system engineers. Lots of obsolete law now being digitalized and processes are being automated. I still feel like I work in a 1950s shop when sending/receiving faxes, and receiving discovery and motions by the thousands of pages via courier. Eventually everything will be handled in the digital sphere. The question is, do you know python, bro?

To be fair, people thought the legal market had reached its peak in 1982 and that hiring would never pick up again.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to imagine this happening again.

It's just the same as a general boom in the economy. Probably some time but no way to tell. Maybe not for decades.
