Getting really good at guitar has some big hurdles though. I mean I still don't think it's as hard to master as violin or trumpet or something, but there's a huge difference in the effort needed to get from beginner to knowing how to play the whole beatles catalog, vs getting from that to high level playing. |

High end guitar finger picking involves playing rhythm and lead simultaneously sort of like piano (albeit with much more restrictions in the notes available). With violin, you're never really doing more than simple chords and isolated notes. The technique is hard to master but once you get that to a high enough level the only axis you can really improve on is speed. |

I still agree that there's a steep learning curve getting past the "beginner" level on guitar even though doing beginner shit is pretty easy. |
