Shitlaw to Biglaw

Date: March 31st, 2013 3:29 AM Author: Magical Tan Boltzmann Got a call yesterday, Biglaw interview. I've been doing Shitlaw for 1.5 years.
Never billed in my life, work 8:30 to 6:00 every day (half hour lunches, so 9 hours a day), never more than 50 hours a week on a really bad week.
What should I be expecting? Minimum billables at the interviewing firm are 1800. How different from Shitlaw is it going to be? Work Saturdays? Or just do 8:30 to 7:30 M-F?

It is rare to find a midlaw that pays biglaw salary. And those that do tend to be extremely selective in recruiting. Pretty much you are talking about former V10 refuges and others with biglaw credentials.
The OP is a shitlaw bro whose firm doesn't even have a billing process.
I highly doubt that a shitlaw firm, even the shittiest of all, would not have billing.
How do you go from "I got an interview" to "what should I expect in terms of billing"????

2. Never saw Biglaw as the majors compared to Shitlaw. I would compare the 2 to the ABA/NBA. The ABA, like Biglaw, was flashier and paid higher salaries, but players' tenures were shorter. The NBA, like Shitlaw, was more established, had a larger base, and although not as flashy, it was an everyman's league full of talent. |
