In 2002 or 2003 I was something of an early adopter and bought a 128MB Sony flash drive from Circuit City for around $90.

I've been gimping along on that thing for 10 years and finally spent like $7 on a USB 3.0 model to get a small Amazon order over the $25 threshold.

The one from 2003 probably does. It's packed away in a box somewhere though, haven't seen it in years

The cheap one from 2013 was junk and died

The new one is 8GB.

I've been opposed to getting a new one all these years largely because of how much I overpaid for that first one. There was even a $20 mail-in rebate on the thing that I forgot to do, which really pissed me off.

My dad got a 16MB M-Systems "DiskOnKey" with a computer. One of the earliest flash drives. It still works.

I got a 512MB Memorex one with a unique write-protect switch; when the switch is on you can't write to it. Came with a lanyard.

Last thumb drive I got was when a buddy from Europe snail-mailed me a couple of albums and video games from GOG and whatnot, it was one of these

Then I got a little PNY one I could swallow in emergencies and a wd passport. now I just memorize important data in assembly.

I recently bought a multi pack of flash drives.

See, my Grandma used to have a computer. But she recently gave it up because her eyesight is getting worse and she moved into assisted living.

She always really liked doing stuff with photos though, she had scanned a bunch of old ones, etc. So I gave her this thing, which can read photos off a memory card and display them on her TV:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NO9RRM

My thinking was I'd periodically give her a drive with a fresh batch of photos & videos on it

She was apparently in a bit of a mood when I set up the photo viewer hardware. After we looked at a few photos, she made me unhook it from her TV and put it in a drawer. I'm certain she hasn't used it since.

So I've got a few unused flash drives sitting around

What's odd is some don't have an activity light, which I consider essential. And some have it, but it's not noted on the package. Like I have a Patriot one where the light is under the plastic and is not visible until it actually flashes on.
