the only thing i dont like about it is u get really paranoid about your job security cuz u lack that face to face daily reassurace. this is compounded if you spend half the day really unfocused (even though you would be screwing around at work too).

i have been doing this a lot because i hate driving in to an office where i don't need to be

i have an elaborate lunch cooking on the stove right now, have netflix blasting in the background, and am updating our data retention policy

you have to balance it out by doing more social things outside of work, tho, cuz otherwise you turn weird or get lonely or lose all your contacts

i have a friend who works "from home" for a F500, and "work from home" for him means "move to a different European country every six months and dial in from there while collecting 6fig paycheck"

If we lived in a reasonable world, it would only be a matter of time before this was the norm. Why do people even need to be in an office these days?

- Meetings can be conducted via Citrix GTM, or a similar program. You can even do live video feeds.

- Productivity can be monitored with unintrusive software that quietly runs in the background.

- Documents can be easily and securely e-mailed or stored on an FTP

- You can chat with coworkers over Sametime or GChat

- Companies can avoid the overhead of rent, equipment, furniture, all the other bullshit that's stored in a physical office

why does productivity even need to be monitored

either you hit your deadlines and worth employing or you don't and you aren't

you talk like a wage slave

It's true. Honestly even though I'm more apt to go wander around during the middle of the day for an hour when I'm working at home when I really want to get work done I'm far more productive cuz I don't have random coworkers strolling into my office or asking me questions they don't really need to ask just to socialize.

Yeah, I mean, I think the stroll in the middle of the day shouldn't be stigmatized at all. As long as you get your work done, whether that's at 1 PM or 11 PM shouldn't matter.

Got a friend that works as an IRS agent. Due to the union agreement, they are obligated to give him up to 80 hours a month working @ home. A significant chunk of the remaining time is spent on field appointments.

He only ends up going to the office like once a week.
