So, I have another in-house interview next week. I am meeting with like 8 ppl. It is almost an entire day of interviewing. I have 30-min to 1-hour slots with either an individual person or two people at a time.

What should I expect? Any more questions about qualifications?

Note: My second interview was with the hiring attorney.

You need to sell yourself on your skills but 65% of the interview is fit with the 8 ppl (who will be your colleagues). If just one of them doesn't like you, you'll be dinged, so be on your A-game.

Thanks brother. Any tips? Start the interview with a hello and say. "Did you see last night's game?"

No just follow their lead. Its gonna feel like speed dating. Also your interviewers depend on where they are in the cycle may be more inquisitive or annoyed, because if not yet you'll be like the 20th person dragging them from work and making them stay late.

Also, some of them may not be attorneys, they could be biz or ops people that liase with the position a lot, so be sure to ask questions like "how would I work with you and what are you looking for and here is what I have to offer etc"

Much appreciated brother. I did a second interview for another inhouse position last week. How do I bring it up that there are other suitors?

Both companies are in the financial realm but have different roles. They are both in different cities too.

I wouldn't unless they ask (they may). In my case I was interviewing at places that all worked w/each other that had a vendor relationship or were competitors. Some asked, so I just briefly mentioned that w/out names. There were a few places where I was interviewing in one spot, and I would have probably been opposite the table of the interviewers had I gotten the position.

In this economy they can pick exactly what they want out of a pool of 10 desperate drones, so you won't gain any leverage. The only gain is if they question "why our type of company" and you can indicate your interested for xyz and have indeed been interviewing for similar positions already. That can show your interest in the general subject matter type of role, if they are the same.

i wouldn't expect more qualification questions unless you're meeting with more attorneys.

fit will be important so i guess you should figure out sort of culture the company has and what sort of personalities work there.

i wouldn't bring up other suitors unless there are specific questions about it. in-house is not impressed if you have other options. there are prob 100 other people begging for this job.

I met with both business and legal side folk. It really is all about fit at this point for you - you will be able to tell right away whether they like you or not depending on their body language and facial expressions.

Just ask yourself what kind of person do they seem like, what are their interests, what kind of colleague do they want? You need to be able to act accordingly.

I would say in most cases, trying to be super "buddy buddy" comes off as horribly fake at best, and a conniving scheming politiking back-stabber at worst. Be humble, modest, friendly, confident. Your resume says all they need to know about your qualifications.

Serious question - as I just accepted my in-house offer to an existing client...

At what point do the tables "turn.." meaning, when will my biglaw boss start pandering to me for business? I actually had a great relationship with my boss but there's a certain associate in my group I would love to exact some level of vengeance.

Wait a month or so, invite partner to dinner/lunch/etc and say "hey now that I'm on the other side let's do lunch". They'll pay, you don't even have to ask.

Then just basically be blunt and say you're trying to get them more business but they have to show you the love. They understand the game.

Don't bother w/the associate and move on w/your life.

This is horrible advice. If you work at a publicly traded company your old boss may try to reversebigwilliepwn you somehow.

Just do the work and make zero promises about delivering work.

I just took an in-house job and the butt-kissing began right away. It's great. Everyone's "happy" for you (they generally disown you if you lateral to another firm).

the ass kissing starts immediately. i got invited to sporting events and dinners w/i a month of starting.

they also know that you're not going to be picking outside counsel immediately but they want to maintain the relationship so that you'll think of them in the future.

This.

I had an assoc whom I fucking hated for good reasons. When I saw her name on a bill, I blew up at my old boss (who now works for me), making him grovel and forcing him to knock $100k off a bill
