Some 120-IQ people might be able to study to that level, but probably not most of them. The more the average taker preps, the harder it is to differentiate yourself by out-prepping other people. And who actually takes the thing without a prep course or a decent amount of self-study these days?

Definitely not. Some people get a 168 cold, can't do better than 172 on a PT, then get a 170. Others start off with like a 158, study for a short time, and get a 178. Like 2-3 weeks of study equalizes it a lot. Some people are already into brain teasers, logic games, and LSAT sort of shit.

Don't think so. The LSAT is too much of a time crunch for cold to be the relevant metric. I would say your score after 5 hours of studying is better as it allows some time to just understand the format and types of questions but not enough to grind through stuff.

Sure, but newer numbers tend to draw on smaller sample sizes. If you tell me the average has dropped a bit, I believe you, but it's still above 100. Also, the Flynn effect must be considered here.

the GSS is an extremely large, representative study and it's highly unlikely those numbers are off by much. no one is disputing the average is above 100, but the point is that that it's pretty close to 100. the flynn effect isn't relevant here - it does not raise or lower mean IQ, but simply changes norming standards over time.

true, and the middling "colleges" attended by dumbs tend to have really high dropout rates, while better schools have lower ones. the disparity between dropouts and graduates is probably pretty big based on that alone, even if dropouts are as smart as graduates within the same school.

Only about 1/3 of Americans have college degrees. Only about 2% have professional degrees. Of the 1/3 that have college degrees, only a subsection are statistically intelligent enough to be successfully admitted into a professional program.

Yes, a person with a 100 IQ< using extreme diligence and hard work, MAY be able to score well enough to secure professional school admission, but this is highly unlikely statistically, and in an environment where competition/selection is the norm, certainly not the statistical average.

A 125 LSAT correlates to a statistically average IQ. There is no inconsistency here. He is dumb relative to the average LSAT taker who scores 150, and is over 1 SD smarter in IQ terms. To a 165+ LSAT type, he'd be a mouth breather. This is an issue of perspective/IQ differentials, not a flaw in the test and its IQ correlations.

Because an actual person would supposedly be trying to ascertain the correct answers, not randomly bubbling. He'd have to be pretty smart to understand the advantage of just bubbling all Cs, lol.

IQ tests work the same way. You're supposed to try to answer correctly, not just select the same letter each time. The number of correct answers is a good gauge of aptitude.

I understand what you're saying. You're not understanding what I'm saying. There are no monkeys doing this, so the test is normed for real people who are actually trying to answer the questions honestly.

That a 125 score is so rare and improbable is further validated by the fact that a 100 IQ person even sitting for the LSAT is a rarity/

That's not true. Do you know any actual 100 IQ people and interact with them deeply enough to gauge their critical reasoning skills? As an example, how well do you think the cashier at Wal-Mart who barely graduated high school and can't distinguish between "their" and "they're" (let alone reason through LR/LG) would do?

Do you have a "dumb" gf who majored in psych at state u? She probably has a 110-115 IQ and still can't answer enough to score a 150+ on the LSAT. Just try it. Play a game with her and see how many LSAT q's she can answer.

the cashier at Wal-Mart has, at worst, a 20% chance of getting any given question right. the 125 LSAT test taker, according to you, presumably had significantly better odds than said cashier and yet scored equal or worse than what would be statistically expected from Wal-Mart dude.

the filtering mechanism is precisely what causes the scale to be flawed. it makes assumptions about the test taker which are clearly refuted by the village idiot who scores a 125 on the exam.

Your not approaching this the right way.

If I say "Someone who scores a half-court shot during an NBA game must be above-average at basketball"

Do you think a valid response would be: "lolno, they could just be a monkey throwing the ball randomly"?

The obvious problem with the above response is that you need to get into the NBA in the first place. Which selects for people who are above average at basketball.

And that additionally, anyone can randomly select any measure of success. It's called chance/luck, not aptitude, which is why, on statistical average, it is so unlikely for a median person.

keep in mind that people who score 120-125 usually don't complete the test, they're people who leave after the first or second section. The bottom of the curve is a little fucked up, it's not comparing equivalent effort. the fact that a monkey guessing on all questions isn't really relevant.
