They just sell their own families to make a buck and save their own asses.

Now you could say that the Romans and the Nazis really pwned them, and that's true. But of course those were terrible odds.
And as for why the Jews were persecuted, well, unfortunately for the Jew, he survives. He survives even after being named the Devil in the New Testament and the Koran, and despite living only in those lands where these books formed the basis of society. And he survived by having to be more productive than the other guy--to win to survive. If business is competition, then there was constant friction between the Jew and the natives of his host country in which the Jew got the better of the native. |
