He doesn't know if they were recent cases or from the 1920s. He doesn't know if they're published or not, and thus precedential or not. And trying to cram all that info into the text is ridiculous. Citation formats exist precisely because they can convey a large amount of information in a succinct way. To hide that from the decisionmaker (unless he is willing to break reading to scroll down) is terrible form and preferred mostly by academics who care more about what they have to say than what any authority says.
