I recall distinctly in high school the goth kids having a little sit together where they presented the Mumia "injustice." The materials would present all these "facts" of how the guy was completely innocent. That much was taken as truth - the debate was whether the cops framed a black journalist as backlash, whether the cops were really just incompetent or, as the more "intellectual" ones would say, it was some complicated mix of both.
I remember reading about these "facts" and thinking - how the hell could this happen? Then I remember actually pulling a non-shitlib periodical which had an article about it (similar to the wiki about it today) and how it went into great detail about how not only was they guy guilty, there wasn't even a remote doubt that he was not only guilty but was brazen about it.
It was that point on that I basically dismissed the shitlib crowd as some sort of non-intellectual, masturbatory affair that was similar to going to church. |
