The wisdom I have heard thrown around is that being an AA male will add about 8 points to your LSAT. Personally, I am above the 25th percentile on both my LSAT and GPA with a great personal statement, work experience and a meteoric upwards grade trend. That is to say, I don't know how much of my good cycle was due to a URM bump, and how much of it was due to adcomms liking my application. My advice is to start studying for the LSAT now and put in at least 15 hours a week until you take the test (when are you going to take it?), then devote a ton of time to your personal statement. My desire to attended law is fueled by my community. My community is comprised largely of how I identify ethnically. Additionally, much of my community is comprised of a deep sense of Multiculturalism. All of my undergraduate career was spent engaging, developing, and dialoging within my own community and across/within other spaces {of identity}.
John Brown Childs "Transcommuniality" has inspired much of my work is being consistent. I am the same {hopefully multidimensional!} applicant in my application, personal statement, letters of rec, and addenda.
My LSAT is FAR from perfect, but I can certainly walk the walk. Stay inspired - we are more than numbers, and law schools are eager to see fresh stories and experiences. |

Thank you so much! I was definitely surprised at the acceptance for BC, however, it just goes to prove the point that some admissions offices take a more holistic approach to admissions. This fact shouldn't deter those in undergrad from applying themselves fully and doing their best, but should go to the point that the game is a little more nuanced than just numbers. |
