Bros, got a friend who I used to be much closer buddies with in the past, but have not really hung out at all with for 2 years except a couple times. Was good friends with the family - would go over for holiday parties, stuff like that. No falling out, just been busy, still shot the occasionally bullshit joke text.

Not invited to the engagement party which was like 8 months ago. Now get a invite to the wedding in june. They've been planning this for a while, so I highly doubt they just sent out the invitations, unless they did a save the date earlier? This looks like he waited to see how many no rsvps would come in and then i got the invite, right?

wedding invites typically go out 2-3 months before the event so it's unlikely you're on the b-list.

but even if you are on the b-list, get over it, since you're clearly not a close friend.

Agreed. A lot of times they just slide, too, because everything takes forever (printing, calligrapher, collecting addresses, etc.).

LOL at OP caring about this and overthinking this.

It's stressful planning a wedding and getting the invitations out is just one of the many things they need to do. 2 months out is perfectly normal.

cool. Only reason i thought otherwise is because they've been engaged for over a year. And she has an older sister who got married about 2 years ago, and it's the type of family that wants the 'perfect' wedding, so i'm guessing they've been planning since he proposed

don't go if this offends you so much. most people send out save the dates further in advance but whatever. 2 months is enough time to make plans for a weekend.

nah not offended, it's my fault for not hanging out more. quite honestly i've been busy, he moved to the suburbs with the fiancee, and they like to do expensive dinners and i'm not exactly killing it

To be honest, I don't think my wife and I even did "Save the Date" cards. I know a lot of couples do, but not everyone does.

If you read any of those wedding etiquette Q&A sites, they'll tell you that unless it's a destination wedding, 6-8 weeks before the wedding is the appropriate time to send invitations. I wouldn't assume you're getting slighted here - my guess is that they didn't do Save the Dates, and you got your invitation at the same time as everyone else.

we did an email save the date and i've gotten email save the date in 50% of the weddings i've gone to in the past few years. i think only traditional people do save the dates anymore and even then, you might only send them to the old people who expect one. i didn't even send a wedding invite to some people who never gave me their addresses and already told me they're coming.

We didn't do save the dates.

Save the date is weird wedding industry flame, like so much else involved with modern weddings.

cool thanks bro. i've only been invited to a handful of weddings, and none of those were borderline, so i guess i never really paid attention to when the invites were sent out

nah i mean i actually went to his bachelor party and had a great time. i guess since he got engage about 1.5 years ago and moved to the suburbs can't hang out in the same 'bro' way we used to. we were never best friends, but would hit the bars every couple weeks and always enjoyed each others company

or they didn't have your address until very recently.

was it a snail mail invite or an e-invite?

2 months isn't abnormal unless you'd have to travel far.

yeah his mom actually emailed me for my address, cause i moved recently. consensus seems to be that 2 months is an ok heads up. maybe if someone has to plan a flight or something they need more of a heads up.
