Yeah, the pre-med curriculum seems like it would have been a lot of fun, especially if one had attended a tip-top UG. Just about everyone does introductory sciences: jocks, nerds, hipsters, WASPs, internationals.

That sense of shared purpose must be deeply motivating.

One Ivy I went to had some compliance requirement where they had to list the jobs of graduates from certain departments that had received funding from the state's arts line item. The jobs were like ESL teacher, Au Pair, K-12 teacher, homemaker, non-profit, grant writer, community organizer, health educator, etc. Naturally, they appended a list of top PhD programs students had enrolled in.

That's grade-A faggotry dude.

It sounds like you hang out with snobby WASPs.

The scientists of the past 250 years have solidified their place in academia to the point that lib arts fags have been humbled.

HOWEVER, I will say this: a *REAL* investment in literacy and communication is one of the most important a person can make. But you're not likely to find that at any university these days... It's something you kinda need to figure out yourself (sadly).

Liberal arts is better in a way. It is more interesting, more fun to study, takes less grinding work and rewards chill lazy intelligence.

STEM is a fucking bore to study, and is a huge grind way before smarts matter at all.

STEM gives you a way better chance at a good job though.

If you do liberal arts but still do well career-wise, it does seem more prestigious since you took the bad odds and won.

But let's be real. Doing liberal arts today is stupid for 99.99% of people. Floundering career-wise sucks compared to just copping a decent gig.

There are entire sections at Columbia in entry level STEM courses filled with jerbpwned NY'ers, most of whom went to college and Brown or whatever.
