Trying to explain these types of conflicts while the business folks either blankly stare at us, or give a patronizing response about us being "clever so you'll figure something out" is a massive driver of inefficiency.
Still, you are certainly right that learning how a business operates is crtically important and does get under-emphasized in BIGLAW at times.

the best was when I worked at a firm doing mid market PE as a paralegal, and the lawyers there were making mid-100s at best. the companies being purchased were literally run by criminals who had run the places into the ground, and were walking away with millions in some cases. Every lawyer looked like they wanted to die when deals closed. |
