I am trying to help a buddy exit the doc review game. I have given him my story (although I can be back in any day). I was just wondering whether there are any other stories...besides hanging up a shingle, which this individual would never do.

Any stories, recipes for success.

Went to 50-100 Law school, finished middle of the pack, no real extracurricular activities and graduated in 2012 (Age:29). Has been doing doc review for a solid year now, perhaps a bit longer.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I think he is starting to lose his mind a bit. I don't see him much, probably once a month or so, but he has become more depressed and it's pretty sad and besides telling him to apply, what else can he do.

There is only one way out. He has to lie on his resume and say he worked for your firm, under you, since he started doc review. Oh, God, Oh! the stigma!

His biggest complaint, and he has been doing it for over a year now, is that he doesn't know how to answer certain questions during interviews.

The job is too legal to cast it as something else, but at the same time, doesn't translate easily into another position.

It just sucks for him. He has become way more reclusive and his self-esteem has definitely been shot. The job, in general, is regarded as pretty sub-human. I did language review and there is at least a little more leverage in that, depending on the language.

He fucked his legal career by doing doc review. He can't put it down on a resume. Period. So he better have some way of covering it up. He better GTFO now though. Bunch of doc reviewers on JDU. They'll set him straight.

If he wants a law job, he's fucked. That's just not going to happen realistically. No reason to hire a doc review drone with no skills when there are former federal clerks who can't find jobs. Honestly, I would seriously consider taking night classes in IT or medical billing or some other certificate that you can do at a community college. It sucks to have to stoop this low after wasting three years at law school, but it's going to be hard to find a decent job with a JD on the resume, and IT is still less soul crashing than doc review. Good luck, bro.

cr. his only road to recovery is long and will probably just lead to continued misery. he MIGHT be able to convince some shitlaw king to work for him for some really shitty pay, then eventually leverage those skills into something a little better, and 3-5 yrs out maybe land something that is actually considered a decent job, but jfc, if you have to wait 3-5 years to get a decent job, you may as well get into a better industry.

A shitlaw king in a really shitty part of ARE country, I might add. A shitlaw king in any decent city doesn't need to hire doc reviewers; they can just hire an unemployed federal clerk or T14 grad. And if your friend doesn't have any ties to a shitty part of ARE country, then it's even harder. Maybe he can make up something about a girlfriend who has family there. Good luck.

a hacksaw carefully concealed in a jimmy john's italian sub, and a ruger pistol to take out the remaining guards.
