Fuck man. Don't you aspire to more than spending all of your income just getting by? This is why I couldn't move back to NYC. Sure, I miss out on the theater and outspoken gays and crowded subway cars, but I could easily save half of a $75k salary in are country.

No offense. Your post just makes me sad and reminds me of my former co-clerk: a 45 year old YLS grad-turned career federal law clerk that would constantly bitch about her empty bank account, which was empty because she was a federal employee in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Insanely cheap, right? A $2.2k 2-bdrm in Bedstuy is about the norm now.

Maybe, but I doubt you'd think it was shitty if you lived here. I lived in NYC, and I can't think of one thing I liked to do there that I can't do here. I'm not a foodie or a theater nut, though.

All my friends and some family live in or around NYC. I couldn't handle some huge fucking house in are country with no one to chill with nearby. It's also way easier to meet similar people with my lib tastes and education here than in some hicktown in the middle of nowhere. It's cool that you like it though.

$75k isn't shit if you plan on retiring and aren't getting some sort of financial assistance.

I made 75K my first year and lived in Manhattan.

Don't listen to people who say that you need 150K+ to live decently in NYC. Plenty of people don't make that money and live just fine.

But you need to find cheaper housing. I had a roommate and paid 1350 for rent. My take-home pay was about 4400. So that leaves ~3000 to spend/save.

1BR. We live fine. We also have modest wants (I.e. Would rather play each other in beer pong drinking rolling rock then go meet our friends at a chill bar vs. going to the fuckin opera).
