I'm pretty sure there is plenty of manpower IN THE FUCKING DOMINICAN REUBLIC. But why hire locals when some rich American kids will pay money to fly there and install water purifiers using their high-level manual skills?

I'm legitimately surprised so many of the very best went to LS, especially to then go work in corporate law. But 7 or 8 years ago, it seems like a top LS was seen as a legimate option over bulge bracket banking, and MBB was considered a step down.

English majors at HUG don't become literary critics, they become bankers, consultants, lawyers, etc. This is so common and well known it's not the case that sub-par students select into liberal arts ESPECIALLY at top Ivies.

seriously. STEM is rough. some people may be good at one type of math, but suck at another type, analytic vs. discrete for example.

lib arts is a joke for getting A's. i took upper div English lit courses in shit like Milton and Shakespeare (prob considered the hardest courses in the major), and got A's in all of them.

calling the student with the highest GPA in HUG the best/smartest student is inconclusive considering you are comparing all students studying a spectrum of majors ranging from anthropology/ethnic studies to Math/Physics/CE/EE.

Obviously these guys are very smart and high IQ but LJL at calling them the best student. Summa in social anthropology major means shit compared to brain power of top UG students in Harvard's math dept. A guy who manages to take and complete Math55 with a good grade I am guessing will probably eat these two for lunch

in some fields.

but there have been plenty of math prodigies who tried to make "contributions" to other fields like philosophy or history and got embarrassed, because while analytical skills and IQ are important, you also have to accumulate a large mental database of facts and arguments and counterarguments before you can really "engage" with what has come before your own arguments.

ofcoure. a math prodigy may even flunk a creative writing class. I dont mean to say STEM bros will dominate every field. I am just saying these kind of GPA based prizes for HUG is not a really an unbiased indicator of academic accomplishment.

I will be 10x more impressed by a 3.9 Math Magna UG from HUG than 4.0 HUG Summa in Anthropology. That is my argument
