This benefit inures to EVERYONE, INCLUDING WHITE PEOPLE at a university. So when the majority votes to ban AA, they are doing so after taking into account the loss of educational benefits from diversity. Banning AA doesn't hurt minorities any more than it hurts white people, under SCOTUS's current view of AA. To the extent that blacks feel they lose anything else, those other things are not constitutionally legitimate reasons to have AA. Date: April 23rd, 2014 12:32 AM Author: tan filthy whorehouse because the "diversity" rationale is bullshit that literally nobody with a two working brain cells believe. People either believe AA should be banned or believe it's worthwhile to right past wrongs and/or make outcomes more even.
If people actually thought diversity was worth 15% of the class having a test scores 1.5 STDEV below the median, they'd do something to actually promote diversity on campus. There are countless studies about how to do this (small residential colleges, etc.). But nobody does any of that who wasn't already doing it, because nobody truly believes in the diversity zeitgeist. |
