Had my second round two weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Meanwhile I've got an offer from another firm that I don't like nearly as much that I really need to move on by early next week. Does it make sense to write the firm I'm waiting on and let them know that I've got another offer that I need to act on?

In a similar situation, I called the hiring partner to reiterate my interest and ask when I would get a decision. Pretty sure I would not have gotten the offer if I didn't.

How is this even a question? Do it politely, of course, but this is absolutely information that you should bring to their attention.

I guess I just don't want to rush them into making a decision and end up not getting as a result, especially when I'm not really all that thrilled with the other lateral opportunity.
