This is bullshit.
Join a beer league softball/basketball league. Or any other team sport except millennial bullshit like kickball. Also make sure not coed.
Be normal. Drink beer in locker room. Go to bar after game. You now have new acquaintances.
Join local country club. Show up some mornings and join a 3some. After round order a round of bourbon based drinks for the 4some. Be normal. You now have new acquaintances.
Have kid. Put kid in a sport that isn't soccer. Chat with normal dads at games. Be normal. You now have new acquaintances.
Will all of them become friends? No. But you'll expand your network and some will actually become friends. Will you ever be as close as you were with your freshman roommate? Probably not, but you'll have a group you can go to bar with, tailgate with and do other bullshit with.
This works even with literally no network in a city.
Much harder for women.

Decent advice. Basically, do things outside the house that involve being around other humans and be normal. Good advice, but maybe a tall order for some XOers.
That said, I'm not sure about this women/men distinction. It might be harder for women to make new true friends, but they seem to make sorta-friend-acquaintances more easily. Every time my wife switches jobs, next thing I know she has various new female coworkers inviting her out to dinner or some shit like yoga, or inviting her to dinner parties I then have to go to. I think most dudes have their longterm crew and aren't as quick to start arranging playdates with their new male coworkers.

False, none of the recent posts you're likely referring to included any talk of retiring.
I did say I was going to retire once a few months back (maybe May?), but that was more of a standard, failed, "trying to retire so as to stop wasting so much time here" retirement that many poasters are surely familiar with.
In any event, why do you care

Made some of my closest friends since graduating.
Sorry you are an autistic shut-in.
