The other ones were good for nostalgia and seeing how all those guys turned out, but the first one perfectly encapsulated what it was like being an average dude in high school, the pressures, the drama, the true friendships, etc. that just don't exist anymore. Superbad was the last movie to do the same and that came out when I was graduating so I feel a closer connection to that movie, but the first American Pie was truly 180 in its own right.
