The one thing that was shocking was her optimism. She always knew she was going to work hard and then make it somehow. The reality that she still lived with her parents didn't matter.
The whole thing is still hard to comprehend to this day. I don't get how the average janitor tends to have a better attitude on their own life than the average biglawyer. Deconstructing the link between intelligence and pessimism is the toughest challenge we face for whatever reason.
