My best guess is that a traditional push-up is about the same resistance as benching 1/2 of your body weight. I can do around 70 pushups and can reach about 20 reps on the bench with my body weight.

I wish haha. Try manlet with a really high stregnth to weight ratio.

no it's not. more like 1/3

source: SCALE pushups

not to mention that pushups are isometric and require no stabilizers.

Edit: just redid it with a more accurate scale (it had been a while since the first measurement) and it weighed between 140-170 for near-hand pushups depending on the part of the movement...I weigh 225.

It's still not like benching 140-170 because there are no stabilizers involved and bench presses usually go a bit deeper (all the way to chest)

I wouldn't doubt that. 1/2 has always been my rule of thumb based on zero research.

there isn't a strong correlation.

I could only do 45 pushups or so back when I benched 300 @ 215.

most weight-lifting routines don't train muscular endurance. if you want to do more pushups, do more pushups. there is crossover (as in id be surprised if a guy with a BW bench couldn't do at least 25 pushups) but it is definitely not 1 to 1.
