I figure once I have $2 mil net -worth plus my home paid for (~45-years-old) I'll work retail 25-30 hrs a week and just chill. I could work at brooks brothers or a high-end watch store or something.

Thoughts?

That sounds chill. Too bad they don't have bookstores anymore. Maybe sell women's shoes?

It might hurt your sales pitch.

-Back when I was in finance this was the power watch.

-Oh, what do you do now?

-I realized that the entire thing was meaningless and that striving solely to make more money and buy more baubles was ultimately a soul-crushing path to emptiness and loneliness. So I cut back on everything, built a tiny house myself married a hippie girl who is into free love and threesomes and set myself up financially so I'll never have to work again. I rode my bike to work today and it was just so freeing. I only work this job because I love people and now I get to spend all my time with my loved ones and friends and now that I've reduced my consumption to actual necessities the salary from this job easily covers all my living expenses plus three to four awesome vacations a year. Anyway, you want to take a look at these Pateks?

This would work best if the store owner is a friend -- otherwise you run the risk of dealing with shitty 25-year-old managers who want to throw their weight around to show you who's boss.

I'll never understand people who seem to derive satisfaction from working customer service jobs. I worked at a coffee shop when I was in college and was amazed at colleagues who seemed to really enjoy the social aspect of it all. Blew me away to be honest.

I worked at a coffee shop and I fucking loved it. Your entire day is problem>solution and as a non mouth breather you are a fucking hoss. Your customers love you and bring you Christmas presents because you're basically a drug dealer. You just chat with people and drink coffee.

I suppose it is a certain chill type of lifestyle that appeals only to the chill and not socially awkward aspies.

Slinging coffee would be pretty chill. Beats working in an office. I really don't care what people think; I guess it would be different if I didn't have the education I have.

Point is, if you have a decent UG and T14 JD who cares if you work retail. I'd be more disinclined to do retail if I didn't go to law school (like if I only have an UG or was a dropout or something)

best thing about retail is finishing for the day and not needing to think about work at all until the first minute of your next shift
