That I want to be GC for a startup one day. Does that show ballsy ambition or that I'm admitting I'm not gunning for partner.

startups don't pay biglaw bills. say GC of F100 and you can still be valuable to the firm

Given that you've never practiced law a day in your life, you should not say that. Just say you are leaning to corp or lit (or reg or tax, etc.) and why you are leaning that way.

I have a biotech background, so I'm leaning IP and this is less crazy than the normal 1L.

You're right though, in that I have no real idea of what that entails. But that is true for practicing anything.

Yea for what it's worth I don't think it would really matter either way if you said it. If you def do want to do that then go ahead. Students irrationally fear that saying you would ultimately like to be in a different legal job will somehow be taken the wrong way. It won't. Theyre people too and probably have their own hopes for different legal jobs. I just would avoid saying "3-4 years at a firm then I'm gonna jump to startups"

I would ask you why. If your answer is retarded (and it surely will be) I'd ding you right quick.

As a scientist, the idea of securing IP protection in addition to all the other corp/transactional stuff while trying to bring a new product to market with brilliant inventors is appealing to me.
