No matter how miserable you are, you will not draw sympathy from family members who have 2 kids a mortgage they can barely service and a salary they've worked up to that's half as big as yours.

Now it's "yeah, pretty busy but fine I guess," and I quickly move on. They still don't have a clue as to why I left flyover when there are lots of "rich" lawyers back home and ask me all kinds of questions about criminal cases in the news and stuff.
My dad is a boomer professional who maed it, and just thought that if I stuck around I'd make partner. Getting canned during ITE made it clear to him that things have changed dramatically since the 70s/80s and that I wasn't exaggerating the long odds, so he finally gets it and no longer goes into stuff like "if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life!" |
