What I never understood is why an 18 y/o kid wants small classes. Who the fuck cares? You are there to get a diploma and high GPA for whatever purpose. Small classes with a ton of extra work and requirements on your time to show up and whatever? It just seemed to be really dorky and not at all strategic in terms of playing the GPA game.

They like the small classes BS because of some normative value placed on learning from LAC profs. Not only do these kids, in my experience, end up learning nothing different than people from large classes, but there's an emphasis on participation and attendance and being a faggot extrovert that isn't CR for all types of people.

I was at a wedding and this girl from a T20 LAC said she hates her law school because of the "public school kids" that attend with her. It's a third tier school. I pressed her for more details and she said that the writing skills of the "public school kids" makes her school bad.

of course we need to be comparing the same type of schools, like a top public to the better LACs; clearly I would not prefer my child attend the University of Oklahoma over a top LAC if we can afford the latter. But I would rather have my kid attend the University of Michigan or University of Wisconsin over Macalester College, for example. Most people on xo probably agree with that, but the Macalester kid intrinsically believes they are better people because they attended a small college with selective admission. It's silly.
