They weren't supposed to be in their 20s but they were more successful than 90% of 20-somethings these days.

Costanza was 30 when the show began. Seinfeld was 35 -- he turned 60 a few months ago.

The first few seasons of Seinfeld were more low-key and realistic. Somewhere after the third or fourth season the show became wackier and zanier with elaborate plots. The pilot is actually a really good observation about modern relationships. Jerry can't tell whether the Poli Sci professor from Michigan wants to bang or is just looking to crash on a friend's couch. The awkward greeting at the airport is hilarious.

That's the reason David left the shower -- Jerry was going too zany. It's even more obvious the last two seasons, when LD had nothing to do with production (except, of course, the last episode, which may be the kookiest of them all).

Ironic then that the last few seasons of Curb were really bizarre.

anyone heard of thirtysomething?

Its pretty realistic for that age bracket, though the writing was a bit contrite. It follow the transitions between college and career, dating and marriage, kids vs no kids, peter pans who do not want to grow up, trying to figure out what you are suppose to be.
