Date: August 24th, 2014 1:14 PM Author: 180 institution Nah, more than likely both the decline in murders and the spike in shootings are statistical fluctuations. Shootings are still below 2012 levels, and 2012 was the last year S&F was in full force.
EDIT: I guess Bratton agrees with me: "Police Commissioner William Bratton has said spikes and declines in crime rates are not unusual." |

you read what you want to read into the numbers. if there's a drop in some category or categories of crime (5 of 6 categories are down this year) then it's just a fluke or the result of some legacy from the giuliani era that de blasio hasn't managed to dismantle yet. if one category goes up, it's because of the end of stop & frisk, even though it effectively died in 2012. blaming the end of stop & frisk is incredibly premature, given that shootings are still below their level in 2012. |
