But my brother's friend is about to retire from the NYPD and was thinking of doing CUNY law. He wants to go solo eventually. Money won't be an issue since he has that pension and cuny is cheap...and practical. I mean, they do a lot of clinics and stuff; things you need to know to practice irl. Thoughts? |

Clinics are flame. Trial and deposition skills take hundreds of hours of practice to build. Its like learning to play the piano. A 20 or 40 hour clinic doesnt get you anywhere near where you need to be to ask people to pay you to play.
It takes better part of 3-5 years of actual practice to turn baby lawyers into the real thing. Fresh out, you are like my 8yo on the piano.
So, the real question is who the hell is going to hire your 50yo friend with NYLS or CUNY on his resume? Apart from the huge age discrimination he is going to face his degree is toilet paper.
