At this point, don't settle unless they make credible threats to sue, like serving you with a complaint
check the SOL in your state - once that hits, you're home free
When you get collection letters, just send them back letters explaining there was a billing error, you don't owe any money, and that they need provide verification of the debt - do some google searches on how to construct the letter
Do not admit to anyone that you owe them money. Do no pay anyone any money ever unless pursuant to a settlement, which you will only do if they serve you
After 7 years from the last activity, your credit report is clean (better than waiting 10 years)
