Here's what you should do:

Stop going to class.

Cram bar review/old outlines for all your classes.

Take as many practice tests with model answers that you can get your hands on.

Smash as many 20 year old sophomores as possible.

this is an extreme but generally correct proposition. you should keep going to class imo but pumobro is right that old outlines and practice tests are the #1 way to get there.

titcr. I would have done so much better during 1L if I had just used the old outlines I got from upper classmen who had the same prof and crammed the fuck out of them all semester and taken practice tests. Spending a ton of time reading the cases was a colossal waste of time.

make friends with a 2L and find out who has the good old outlines for your profs.

start taking practice tests about a month before exams. if you really want to gun, go over the test during office hours.

profs would rather do anything else, but it's probably a good way to find out what they like on exams, i.e. spot all the issues and cleanly apply law to the facts or bullshit policy arguments.

I went to HYS, and I got the impression a good percentage of the class (maybe half?) didn't do every practice test. Some of the professors even jacked old questions directly off past exams. So if you are going to spend any time studying at all, I would do every single practice test available.

Hilarious that the only thing they need to do outside of showing up for class 5 hours a week and office hours 2 hours a week is to write and grade a 3-question exam. And then one of the questions ends up copied verbatim from an exam they gave in 1986.

Straight A's 1L at a T2. Did the reading, went to nearly every class, took notes, made my own outlines, even included notecases so I could get extra points dropping them on the final. I don't learn as well from other people's outlines. Didn't kill myself studying though - before class I'd read the cases lightly just so I knew what was going on, and in class I'd take detailed notes based on what the prof thought was important. Later in the semester I'd start putting everything into an outline. I found that going to class and taking notes (with a basic familiarity with the cases) was the easiest and most efficient way to study tbh, not sure why so many people resist it, or waste time poasting/fantasy footballing when they do go to class.

Doing every practice test is key, going over them with someone you trust to make sure you didn't miss anything.

the danger with this approach is that some people will burn out and not be able to cram in november.

But again, it really isn't a lot of work if you can read without moving your lips, it's like a 30-35 hour a week job until you approach finals.

i agree, but i saw people burn out doing all the readings and talking to people and struggling to understand them before class, then getting confused/frustrated when their understanding turned out to be wrong.

exactly. I'm not saying you have to memorize the cases before class, I'm not saying you brief them and shit. You read the cases cursorily so you are familiar with them and aren't confused when the prof talks. While the prof/the called on student talks, you type yourself a nice little summary/brief of the case based on what the prof says (that way you have the prof's spin). Later in the semester you tidy up and organize those summaries into an outline based on issues/topics.

The worst thing to do IMO is to rely PRIMARILY on commercial study guides -- you'll wind up learning a bunch of extra shit you don't need, and the stuff you do need won't be couched the way the prof likes. The people I knew who thought they were being smartasses by doing this instead of going to class got PWNED.
