She said she did well on all standardized tests. That, combined with being able to say she's a URM and from a poor background, should mean she could get into at least decent schools through normal admissions. Instead she backdoored into the extension program and got a dogshit MBA. Why?

TBF, minorities are not very well aware of school prestige. I remember a chick that went to Ethel Walker and her mom didn't know much about the school. The mom kept on asking why she went to a school so far away, and not the run-down school a few blocks away.

fair enough but it seems like she knew the score. she was already old when she backdoored into northwestern and obviously went that route because she knew it was an OK school. and she definitely knew about MBA quality when she made that decision.

why would you transfer to an extension school? if you are admitted to the undergrad you can take night classes or drag your degree out as needed. my senior year of college i was working full time and they let me sub in classes at another school, take late and weekend classes, and otherwise work around it. wasn't that hard and the admin was very willing to accommodate my situation.

yeah that's a night school. looks like they even have 'online programs.' not a regular college degree.

i can understand that they wouldn't charge as much since it's not a normal degree from the undergrad, but 1/4 seems crazy. couldn't find any tuition cost stuff on there, but i'm on my phone and couldn't navigate the site very well.

"SPS programs lead to one of three Northwestern University bachelor’s degrees. Two of the degrees—the bachelor of philosophy (BPhil) and the bachelor of science in general studies (BSGS)—are conferred by the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. she's named NYU medicine as a program that she got into and there was some kerfuffle where an actual med poster and julia fought about what classes were required pre-req's at NYU.

i dont' remember the specifics but it was something along the lines of julia saying that NYU med didn't require you to take physics so long as you were a former playboy playmate or something.

i wasn't aware of her claiming to have applied to or gotten into any law schools.

so why not work part-time to offset loans and do a respected program like kellog, even if you could only get into the night program? also why just three schools? how is 'Tbird' even remotely comparable to the other two? just doesn't make sense.

do you really think you have better opportunities in the NGO world if you don't go to an actually good and recognized program? i know your career worked out fine, but it seems bizarre to pick a complete TTT when it's really not that hard to at least crack a top 10 MBA and you have an admissions advantage. also what happened to the NGO track? you went straight back to media stuff, right?

rational in that you paid a lot for a TTT degree and would have probably had better/more options from a degree from a good school. i know it worked out for you, but i'm sorry, nobody accept tbird students (and probably not all of them) and their admin really thinks it's a good school. this is like when TTT law students claims they passed up good schools because they really wanted the healthcare law specialty program at university of st. louis.

i know, i acknowledged that you seem pleased with your career. i am asking about the decision process for selecting schools. like the thread title says, with your scores and URM status, you could have gone to good schools all down the line. instead you have night school and a TTT MBA. just curious about how that happens.

that would be an issue, but not fatal especially with a high SAT score. URM + high SAT = many, many doors open to you. even from a ghetto high school. i know other URM kids who just whiffed on ivies and they were completely mediocre at a public high school. it's an enormous bump. didn't you start at u. of houston?

also, what happened with the MBA? surely you could have done way, way better since you had a decent resume at that point and the GMAT is fucking easy. what did you score?

austin is well known for nightlife, and not just 'dive bars.'

how is it that you 'party at clubs and lounges' but are a teetotaler?

so far as acting and arts, are you kidding? austin is an entertainment industry hub and probably the artsiest city in texas. you say you like poetry slams and 'art events' (whatever that means), but you think a huge artistic college town full of creative people sucks? aside from maybe a higher overall number of trashy fake-money 'clubs,' houston really offers no advantage in all the areas you list as priorities.

your criticisms make no sense.

yeah, she's been lying about it for ages. she got exposed when she revealed that she used her AP credits to get out of full 2 semester sequences of prereq classes and also never took the prereq labs. 99% med schools don't let you do that, and the ones that take AP credits request you take a higher level bio/chem/physics course to satisfy the "year of bio/chem/physics" requirement
