I work with supply chain folks pretty regularly. They are usually really sharp dudes and generally seem happy. The travel can get a bit extensive. Seems to me to be a good gig - especially if you can land with a company producing a wide array of complex/technologically advanced products.

I'm guessing that the answer is no, but have you been able to get any "commercial" experience in Biglaw (working on purchase/sale or master supply agreements, etc.)? If so, I bet you'd be a really attractive candidate for a top level supply chain gig right out of the MBA program. Those guys are pretty involved in contract drafting/negotiations for major vendors.

How many years is it? Anything is better than law... except maybe surgery which sounds beyond stressful. Supply chain sounds like you're doing something involving a transferable skill set so i'd go for it.

F500 or BIG COMMERCIAL SHIPPING starts mid-100ks. goes up to 200k pretty quickly but levels out around there.

Yes they do. Some make considerably more than that. A lower level supply chain exec at somewhere like Apple, Samsung, Sony, etc. would make great money.

seems to lack sweet treats:

his thesis investigates the utility of using retailer point of sales (POS) data in the production planning process of a consumer-packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing company. The quantitative measurements of utility include the improvement of production forecasting, reduction of inventory costs, and reduction of equipment changeover costs. Qualitatively, we evaluate the effectiveness of using POS to drive a more collaborative relationship between the retailer and the manufacturer. The POS data include items sold, store inventory, and warehouse inventory of a retail partner for specific stock keeping units (SKUs) produced by the manufacturer. We develop production-planning models by combining POS data with customer orders, current production plans, and existing inventory positions to optimize manufacturing and inventory costs. The results illustrate that if the aggregate volume of customer orders approximately equaled to that of the POS, then the integration of POS data into manufacturing planning offers opportunities to reduce production and inventory costs. The analysis also points to situations where POS data and customer orders vary significantly; in these situations the proposed production-planning model does not apply, but the POS data provide useful evidence for aligning plans between the manufacturer and the retailer.
