no more talent being sucked from other fields

I literally knew engineers from top schools going to HYS ten years ago. Hopefully there will be no more bright young minds copying and pasting shit in Latham's corporate department, or worse, doc reviewing in shittigation.

I'd imagine this is their best case scenario, but who the fuck knows what happened to those people.

I knew one bro like this from high school. smartest guy I've met. He works as counsel at some manufacturing company in a shitty flyover state now. depressing as fuck.

Sometimes I just sit and contemplate how much human potential is wasted in this profession. Like, what if everyone in the office spent their 2200 hours doing just about ANYTHING other than the practice of law? How much better would society be? It blows my mind.

law is not taking much "talent" that could otherwise be curing cancer or doing anything else worthwhile. it's taking away poli sci shitheads who would otherwise be working at starbucks.

This thread is referring to 10+ years ago. I'd say even 6 years ago this was the case to some extent. Today, no.

bro, i hear what you're saying and sure there are a FEW people every year who probably go into law who could otherwise do something legit but it's a TINY fraction and it's not holding back progress in other fields. plus the fact that they went into law to begin with shows that these people were too risk averse to really push the envelope in another field anyway, making it ever more unlikely it would make any difference.

to the extent that the OP is right, and engineering grads were going to T3 law schools, it was a waste of skills and talent.

there are few of these people and theyre risk averse pussies (see, eg, going to law school) so it's no big loss.

tbf a lot of the engineers I see in biglaw are in fields with absolutely shit job prospects like Civil Eng or maybe mechanical. I'd rather be pushing paper in MFH or SF than supervising proles in Lubbock or Morgantown.
