Mid level associate in nyc. Want to get out of Biglaw in 1 year, possibly 2 if it takes me that long. How do I start slacking off? I turn down a ton of work but we are busy and I can't fight off everything.

Made my hours this year but have no desire to do that again. Obviously can't go too aggressive since I need to keep this job til I line something else up. But hard to job hunt when you're getting crushed.

just do a mediocre job at things and take a long time. Don't actively fuck up but just be kinda meh. The key is to not be considered one of the superstar associates who everyone wants to fuck up the ass with their deals

I can naturally do a mediocre job. Tough for me to sit on emails or work though since my instinct is to try and clear my plate ASAP. I'm also going to start not taking peoples calls.

overestimate how long it will take you do to something. turn it in a little bit earlier than your estimate, but not when you're done.

Volunteer to oversee contract attorneys on a gigantic antitrust doc review.

I was on a sprawling antitrust doc review that was so disorganized that nobody told me to stop reviewing documents until half a year later after the case had actually ended.

Much longer than that, but likely only because I only did a few hours of it every week so nobody noticed.

In fact, now that I think about it, nobody ever told me to stop reviewing docs -- I learned that the case ended only when I asked about it at some associates' going-away event.
