It's for this reason that I'll always opt for a DO over an MD, ceteris paribus. The DO will have overcome anti-DO flame to have achieved the MD's same position, meaning the MD did better on the MCAT and had a better undergrad GPA, but the DO probably outscored the MD on all the stuff that really matters to get an equally good residency/fellowship and position after residency/fellowship (COMLEX, step 1, step 2, step 3, impressed the attendings/recommenders to ignore the DO degree, whatever). |
